Arthurs Pass is the fastest route over the Southern Alps from Christchurch. More than that, it is a spectacular alpine region featuring snow capped mountains, wild white water rivers and dense alpine forest. By train, car or coach, you pass through tunnels, along gorges, over bridges and through forests enjoying stunning mountain scenery on your journey. If you wish to stay and enjoy the park, there is a variety of accommodation from camping grounds to luxury hotels available. Activities around the park include hiking/tramping, mountain and rock climbing, white water rafting and skiing in the winter. The Park Headquarters offers a museum, weather and other information, guided walks, and in the summer - slide shows and films.
