Only an hours drive from Nelson, the Abel Tasman National Park is famous for its beautiful white sand beaches, calm blue waters and warm sunny weather. Tramping or hiking is the most popular activity but sea kayaking is also a great way to see the park. The trip included in some tours involves a boat (launch) ride around the park which allows you to be dropped off at one beach, walk to another, have a swim and then be picked up again by the launch. The native forest comes right down to the water in many places and features many types of native birds.
There are many tracks from a few hours to several days in length and a variety of walking tours to suit all budgets. Inland tracks feature native forest, birdlife, caves and limestone formations. Coastal tracks feature white sand beaches, forest, bird and marine animals and swimming. Sea kayaking tours out to islands off the park feature marine life including fur seals and penguins.
