A tour appealing to those Frodo and Gandalf fans, with visits to official sites used in the filming of The Lord of the Rings.
Day 1: Auckland - Waitomo - Rotorua Travel south to Waitomo Caves for a boat ride beneath glow-worms. Continue to Rotorua, steeped in Maori culture and history. Tonight enjoy a Maori Hangi (feast) and concert. Stay 2 nights at Rotorua.
Day 2: At Rotorua (Hobbiton) This morning see the famous sites of Rotorua. This afternoon you will be taken to visit the set of ‘Hobbiton'.
Day 3: Rotorua - Queenstown (Flight included) Be transferred for your flight to Queenstown. Ask for seats that will allow you to view Mt Ruapehu (Mt Doom) as you fly south above the volcanic plateau. On arrival in Queenstown the rest of the day is free to enjoy this alpine resort. Stay 3 nights in Queenstown.
Day 4: Queenstown - Milford Sound - Queenstown A full day taking in the wonders of Milford and Mitre Peak, aboard a cruise on the Sound, returning to Queenstown by evening.
Days 5: At Queenstown Today travel by 4WD to many of the sites used for the filming of 'Lord of the Rings' including: Ford of Bruinen, Misty Mountains, Pillars of the Kings & Road to Mordor. Afternoon at leisure, or at an extra cost add an afternoon tour including: Lothlorien, Isengard, Ithilien camp & Amon Hen.
Day 6: Queenstown - Mt Cook - Christchurch Travel north through country used to portray the Pelennor Fields, Misty Mountains, and the foothills of the White Mountains. Continue north to Christchurch where your tour ends in the evening.
