Queenstown is New Zealand's all year alpine playground
and a top tourist attraction. Located beside Lake Wakatipu and in view of
the spectacular Remarkable Range, it offers the visitor stunning scenery and an
endless variety of entertainments. Perhaps most famous for its adventure
sports such as bungy jumping, jet boating, white water rafting, mountain biking
and 4 excellent ski fields within easy reach, Queenstown district also offers
many 'less vigorous' attractions such as cruising on the lake in the restored
steamer TSS Earnslaw, a gondola, gold mining, trout fishing and golf.
There are over 100 cafes and restaurants in Queenstown and nearby Arrowtown (a
picturesque original gold mining town) with something for all budgets, and not
surprisingly, the souvenir shopping is some of the best in the country.
